By 1967 Australia’s involvement in the Vietnam War was reaching its peak. The establishment of the Task Force base at Nui Dat during the previous year marked a substantial increase in Australia’s commitment to the war as the lengthening list of units deployed to Vietnam indicates. With the Malayan Emergency and Indonesian Confrontation over, Australia nevertheless retained a presence in Malaysia as part of the British Commonwealth’s Far East Strategic Reserve.
